Sarah Pogue is a fine artist and illustrator with a focus on the beauty of nature and childhood. She holds a B.A in Studio Art and Art Education from Carleton College and pursued graduate work in Painting and Illustration at SACI in Florence, Italy. Sarah’s glowing landscape paintings are full of color, light and movement - interpretations of real places that she seeks out in her frequent wanderings and travels. She has been commissioned to paint her signature vibrant, yet delicately rendered portraits for numerous public and private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. As an emerging children’s book illustrator, she recently illustrated two titles with Pioneer Valley Books.
I am always searching for the visual magic that will make my next painting special - sunlight through the leaves in summer, a delicate tendril of hair in the breeze, a natural pose that expresses the character of a child. My approach bridges the gap between realism and impressionism. Landscapes breathe with color and motion, often captured en-plein-air. Portraits convey the likeness and the energy of the subject by combining the traditional, old masters portrait techniques of grisaille and glazing with the evocative, direct application of color favored by the Impressionists. I feel a balance of energy and peace when I paint - my purpose is to share that with the viewer!
